About
Matthew Ryan
I'm Matthew Ryan, based in Buffalo, New York. I build software and operating systems for businesses, and I build products of my own. Octavian Ideas is the company through which I take on technical leadership, custom application and website builds, automation, and other creative work I pursue.

Why businesses bring me in
What interests me is the gap between what a business wants to become and what its current operation can support. A company can have ambition, demand, and capable people while still depending on someone moving information between spreadsheets every afternoon. I want to understand that work well enough to build something better.
I co-founded Semres with Noah, a software platform for moving companies, and I am a co-founder and technical architect at Bracey Skyway Partners. I also serve as CTO of WNY Moving. Those roles connect product development with the practical work of running a business.
Semres and FightStats are two projects I especially want people to understand. Semres connects business operations, communication, and growth workflows. FightStats explores a different interest: using detailed fight data to ask questions that broad statistics can miss. I like building things that make a problem easier to see and a useful answer easier to act on.
Octavian Ideas is where my custom software builds and other creative work take shape. Matthew Ryan and Noah share ownership of the company.
Build the person and the system the goal requires
You can deliberately become more capable of achieving the thing you want. That means developing the habits, knowledge, judgment, and willingness to do difficult work that the goal actually requires.
Belief matters because it changes what you do. If you think something could work, you are more likely to work on it, learn from it, and improve it. That does not make every idea right. It gives an idea a chance to produce evidence instead of dying in your head.
Repeated decisions become habits; habits become processes; processes become systems. Once you can see that structure, you can change it deliberately.
How I use AI
I use AI extensively in my work. The value I aim to provide is understanding what should be built, directing the work, reviewing the output, and taking responsibility for the result. A useful system still needs sound decisions about its data, permissions, integrations, and behavior when something goes wrong.
Why Octavian Ideas
Octavian Ideas takes its name from Octavian, who became Augustus, the first Roman emperor. The name points to the transition from ambition into something with lasting structure.
For me, the symbolism is about becoming capable of building what you imagine. An idea starts in one person's head. Making it real requires learning, judgment, creative work, and systems strong enough to support it.
Octavian Ideas exists for custom software builds and the other creative work I engage in. Applications, websites, business systems, independent products, and new creative projects all belong here. The form can change; the purpose is to turn an idea into something real and useful.
